OUR BELIEFS

About the Scripture
The Bible is God’s unique revelation to all people. We believe the entire Bible (66 books) is the inspired Word of God and that men were moved by the Spirit of God to write the very word of Scripture. It is the best and final authority on all matters upon which it teaches.
About God
We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the Son of God, born of a virgin) who became flesh to reveal God to humanity and to become the Savior of the lost world. There is only one God, creator of heaven and earth, who exists eternally as three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each fully God yet each personally distinct from the other.
About Humanity
We believe that all people were created in the image of God to have fellowship with Him but became alienated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, people are incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through their own efforts. All people are created in God’s image and matter deeply to Him. Central to the message of the Bible is that God loves people, and invites them to live in communion with Himself and in community with each other.
About Salvation
We believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. Therefore, God freely offers salvation to those who place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin. Apart from Jesus Christ, all people are spiritually lost and, because of sin, deserve the judgment of God. However, God gives salvation and eternal life to anyone who trusts in Jesus Christ and in His sacrifice on his or her behalf. Salvation cannot be earned through personal goodness or human effort. It is a gift that must be received by humble repentance and faith in Christ and His finished work on the cross.
About the Christian Life
We believe all Christians should live for Christ and not for themselves. By obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Spirit of God, every believer should mature and be conformed to the image of Christ. We are all called to love God with all of our heart, all of our mind and all of our soul and to love our neighbors as ourselves.
About the Church
The local church is a congregation of Christ followers who gather for worship, prayer, instruction, encouragement, service, mutual accountability, and community. Through it, followers invest time, energy, and resources to fulfill the Great Commission – reaching out to all people and helping them grow into fully devoted followers of Christ.
Methodology
We believe that the church (as Jesus did) should go out of its way to reach those who are far from God (reference Luke 15), to reach those who have been away from the church for a long time. Our Sunday morning services and messages are geared to both help believers grow and help the unbelieving or unchurched understand God and the Bible in a clear and simple way. The goal is to not put any obstacles or roadblocks in anyone’s way. This is a direct reference to Acts 15. Everything we do, we do on purpose to fulfill the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.
Our Leadership
Countryside Church is an elder (Action Team) governed, staff led congregation that strives to help all Christ followers grow in their relationship with God and help all followers grow in their service to all of God’s people.

OUR HISTORY

In 1992, a handful of young adults set out on an exciting journey, one that would write the first chapter for a newer way of doing church in the Northern Black Hills. This core group of Christ-followers felt God’s leading to start a church where newcomers felt welcomed and could come “as they are.” It would be a place where unchurched or de-churched people experience grace, receive practical Biblical teaching, and experience practical help for their real lives. It would be a home where people could ask questions, seek to know more about Jesus, and feel encouraged in doing so. Knowing that the Word of God is real and relevant to our world, they wanted to share it with all people in the Black Hills as they served them and created bridges to the community.

Countryside Church officially launched on September 12, 1993, meeting at the Spearfish Middle School. Steady growth was experienced through future moves to the high school, then to the campus of Black Hills State University, and in September 2006, to our ‘home base’ here on Woodland Drive in the Countryside subdivision. God has brought thousands of people into a relationship with Jesus through this ministry. Countless lives have been changed, countless people reached out to, countless compassion projects done in surrounding communities. Countryside is excited about God’s direction in the future!
